Wrought iron furniture offers a timeless look for your patio or deck. The variations are almost limitless. From a traditionally solid look to an intricate, ornamental pattern, and anything in between. Wrought iron can be formed into almost any shape or pattern. The making of wrought iron, in one form or another, dates back to the Middle Ages. Blacksmiths through the centuries have favored this material because of it's resistance to corrosion and rust. As wrought iron is made, non-corrosive materials are worked into it.
My friend Gustav, the blacksmith, raves about wrought iron all the time, and about the non-corrosive materials he melds into the iron as he hammers it out. Not really - I just made that up - I don't know anybody named Gustav. I don't know any blacksmiths either. And you don't really care about the materials found in wrought iron. All you care about is how it looks and how it performs. Well, wrought iron looks great and it performs very well!
Wrought iron furniture is extremely durable and long lasting. It is able to hold up to pretty much anything mother nature can throw at it, and be none the worse for wear. It will not blow away in the wind like some other outdoor furniture. A powder coated finish is almost standard and adds another layer of long lasting and beautiful finish. Wrought iron is not the cheapest furniture for your backyard, at least initially. But like many outdoor components, cost should be evaluated over time. When averaged out over the years, it becomes very cost effective.
The range of accent pieces made of wrought iron is almost limitless. Of course there is a wide variety of tables and chairs, but you can find more accent pieces than are available with almost any other material. Benches, umbrella stands, plant stands, bases for patio umbrellas, the list goes on. Chances are, if you can imagine it, somebody makes it out of wrought iron. Wrought iron accent pieces match well with outdoor furniture made of other material as well, making wrought iron one of the most versatile of outdoor materials.
While wrought iron is durable, it is not soft. For adding comfort to the durability you'll need to add cushions which are available in hundreds of colors and styles.
